PROCESS
As an artist, my goal is to capture the vision of the client. In order to achieve this, it is of the upmost importance that I discuss how the client would like the subject portrayed. I work from photographs and as a client, you have the choice of providing me with a photo that you would like painted or I can photograph the image. I do prefer the image to be digital (or a scanned copy of an older photo) so that I can manipulate the image in photoshop. I create a composition based on the look and feel of what we discussed and submit it to you for approval.
Once the composition has been agreed upon, I begin drawing the image on the canvas (Image A). Once satisfied with the drawing, I begin underpainting with thinned oils blocking in colors (Image B). I choose to work in oils because of durability and texture, there is no other medium that has its range of color and depth. With fine brushes, I add the detail that captures the personality of the image (Image C).
